Choosing The Right Retaining Wall

The right solution for your style and budget.

Benefits of Retaining Walls

There are many benefits to investing in a well-designed, built retaining wall. However, the two biggest benefits are:

  • Stop land erosion and water management: Helps manage stormwater runoff and prevent land erosion.
  • Maximising usable land: Essential for activities like playing and family gatherings.
  • Add value to your property: Not only does a well designed wall look great and add functuion to your property, it will also add to the resale value.

Benefits of Using Sandstone for Retaining Walls

Sandstone is a highly regarded material in landscape construction, offering a combination of strength, natural beauty, and long-term performance. When used in retaining walls, sandstone provides both functional and aesthetic advantages, making it a preferred choice for residential and commercial landscaping projects. Rose Landscaping and Excavation offer supply and installation of all grades of sandstone from A grades all the way to randoms. Visit our blog to find out more information on different grades of sandstone available.

1. Timeless Aesthetic Appeal

Sandstone’s natural tones—ranging from soft beige and gold to deeper reds and browns—enhance the visual character of any outdoor space. Its organic texture and colour variation create a warm and inviting environment, seamlessly integrating with a variety of landscape designs, from contemporary to traditional.

2. Strength and Durability

Renowned for its robustness, sandstone is well-suited for structural applications such as retaining walls. It withstands the pressures exerted by soil and water, and when installed correctly, delivers reliable long-term performance. Its inherent resistance to weathering ensures that it maintains its appearance and integrity over time with minimal maintenance.

3. Natural Drainage Properties

Sandstone’s porous nature allows water to filter through or around the stone, reducing hydrostatic pressure build-up behind the wall. This natural drainage capability helps extend the life of the retaining wall and supports overall soil stability.

4. Enhanced Property Value

Incorporating sandstone retaining walls into a landscape design not only improves the functionality of outdoor areas but also adds a premium, enduring finish. This can positively influence property value by boosting curb appeal and landscape cohesion.
